Mortuary Affairs Office

The RAF Mildenhall Mortuary Affairs Office is equipped to support the family through with military funerals and help them understand what benefits are available. Key services include the handling of funeral operations, organization of the Honor Guard, the travel plans of fallen military members and their families, and financial expenses. It is their duty to ensure that the family is taken care of and that those who have passed are treated with the utmost respect and honor.

Maintain a highly trained and resilient Total Force team of professionals capable of fulfilling our nation’s sacred commitment of ensuring Dignity, Honor and Respect to our fallen while providing Care, Service and Support to their families across the DoD enterprise.

To be the benchmark by which all Mortuary Affairs and honor guard procedures, programs, readiness, resiliency and training are measured while providing the utmost honors to those who have fallen while in service to our Nation.

We offer the following services and programs at RAF Mildenhall:

Eligibility

Mortuary entitlements are determined by eligibility category. Refer to DAFI 34-160 Mortuary Affairs Program to determine mortuary services eligibility and specific entitlements.

Eligibility for Department of the Air Force Personnel

  • Department of the Air Force Active Duty Personnel, United States Air Force Academy Cadets, and Cadet Candidates
  • Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) Cadets
  • Air Force Reserve and National Guard
  • Enlistment Applicants
  • Retired or Retained who die during a continuous hospitalization

Eligibility for Other Categories of Personnel

  • Dependents: Entitlements vary by category of dependent. Please call Mortuary Affairs +44/0 7500 87 2953 and we can determine eligibility status.
  • Members of another Branch of Service
  • US Coast Guard and Uniformed Services
  • Air National Guard and Reserve Component Members
  • Foreign Military Members
  • Retirees and Their Dependents
  • Appropriated Funds (APF) Civilian Employees
  • Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Employees – OCONUS ONLY
  • Contractors Employed by the Air Force – OCONUS only
  • American Red Cross and United Service Organizations (USO) Employees – OCONUS only
  • Foreign National Civilian Employees
  • Other Eligible US Citizens
  • Military Prisoners
  • Indigent or Unclaimed Persons
  • Enemy Prisoners of War (POWs) and Interned Enemy Aliens

Survivor Benefit Program (SBP)

Our representatives provide comprehensive casualty assistance to both retired and active-duty family members in the event of a service member’s death. This assistance includes filing for benefits and entitlements from the service member’s branch of service, governmental agencies, nongovernmental agencies, and the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Funeral honors take precedence over all other Honor Guard activities, including but not limited to promotion and retirement ceremonies. There is always a chance that non-funeral requests will be denied or cancelled if the Honor Guard becomes overtasked with funeral ceremonies.
