Education Level Updates
OFFICERS: The Misawa Education & Training Section cannot assist with updating officer records. Officer PME and education records are updated only through AFIT, the Air Force Institute of Technology (IAW AFI 36‐2670, 8.2.4). Please refer to http://www.afit.edu/coding for additional information to update your records.
ENLISTED: To update an education level, the Education Office must have a copy of the completion certificate or official transcript showing the date the degree was conferred. This can be brought to the Education Office or emailed to our org box.

Commissioning Programs
The Air Force offers a wide array of commissioning opportunities for enlisted members. There are several different paths to commission, including Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), Officer Training School (OTS), medical‐related schools, and more.

Spouses’ Resources
Military One Source (https://www.militaryonesource.mil/education‐employment/for‐spouses/for‐spousesbenefits/) and Spouse Education & Career Opportunities (SECO) (https://myseco.militaryonesource.mil/portal/scholarships) provide information on several benefits that offer assistance to military spouses pursing postsecondary degrees.
The My Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) (https://mycaa.militaryonesource.mil/mycaa/) Scholarship Program is a workforce development program that provides up to $4,000 of financial assistance to eligible military spouses who are pursuing a license, certification, or associate’s degree in a portable career field and occupation. Spouses of service members who are Active Duty on pay grades E‐1 through E‐5, W‐1 to W‐2, and O‐1 to O‐2 who have successfully completed high school and have a military sponsor that is on Title 10 military orders are eligible.
Military Tuition Assistance (MILTA)
Air Force MilTA will pay up to $4,500 per fiscal year in tuition costs.
The Education Office is on stand-by for in-person Military Tuition Assistance (MilTA) briefings. All airmen must attend an initial and follow-up MilTA briefing prior to utilizing MilTA (IAW AFI 36-2670). Email the education office to find out if you need to reserve a seat for the scheduled in-person MilTA briefing, or if you will receive the virtual MilTA briefing. If there is an in-person briefing scheduled, members will not be issued the Virtual MilTA briefing. Due to social distancing guidelines, seats for the briefing are limited to 10 per session. Follow the steps below to sign up and ensure your registration is complete.
Step 1 Verify you have an AFVEC account at afvec.us.af.mil. If no account exists, create one and ensure both the individual and the supervisor contact information is up-to-date.
Step 2 Email the Education Office at MisawaEducationOffice@us.af.mil to request participation in the MilTA briefing. The Education Office will either reserve a seat for the next available briefing or provide you with the Virtual MilTA briefing if no in-person briefings are authorized.
Step 3 Attend the briefing. The briefing location is building 653, second floor, room 219.
Step 4 Contact the Education Office at misawaeducationoffice@us.af.mil to sign up for the MilTA briefing.

Skillbridge
SkillBridge (also known as Job Training, Employment Skills Training, Apprenticeships and Internships (JTEST-AI) under the Department of Defense SkillBridge initiative, prepares Airmen to transition from military to civilian employment. SkillBridge career skills programs are vocational and technical training programs that focus on the practical application of learned skills and can lead to employment in a specific career or technical trade.

The Formal Training Manager can assist with in-residence PME (Professional Military Education) and other formal training courses. The Civilian Training Office provides assistance for GS/NAF and MLC Local National training.
Airman Leadership School (ALS)
Professional Military Education
Misawa Airman Leadership School (ALS) is a mandatory prerequisite for all Air Force personnel with a line number for SSgt. The ALS staff offers seven courses per fiscal year and these classes are open to all Department of Defense (DoD) personnel in the rank of E-4, E-5, or civilian equivalent. Classes provided throughout the course prepare the above mentioned individuals to be professional, warfighting leaders who can supervise and lead DoD work teams to support the employment of Air, Space and Cyberspace power.
Japanese Ground Self Defense Force (JGSDF) Leadership Seminars are provided to JGSDF junior enlisted personnel aimed at providing insight into leadership values and techniques, as well as team building concepts utilized in today’s United States Military. The ALS staff holds up to six JGSDF Bilateral Seminars throughout the year, welcoming host nation personnel from all over Japan. US Service members and JGSDF personnel are afforded to share career experiences, personal stories and career advice during the bilateral lunch to close out the seminar.
Progressive Discipline Process (PDP): The PDP course focuses on the proper implementation of discipline. The course focuses on the supervisor’s role throughout the process, the difference between corrective discipline and preventive discipline, as well as a road map as to how the PDP works. The course consists of a 30–40 minute presentation/discussion followed by a Q & A session, and can be tailored to any setting needed.
Leadership: The Leadership course focuses on all aspects of leadership. The instructor will cover multiple facets of leadership including followership traits, leadership traits and leadership behaviors. In addition to covering these topics a discussion will be held about leadership in general, and what those in attendance have seen throughout their careers. Discussions will focus on what has worked and what has not, in the end providing those in attendance with a variety of approaches to effectively lead people. The course consists of a 30–40 minutes of instruction followed by a 30–40 minute session focused on an open and honest discussion regarding leadership, and can be tailored to any setting needed.

The Following Are for Military-Only Registrations:
First Term Airman Center (FTAC)
is a mandatory five-day course for first duty station Airmen to help them make the transition from a training mindset to a mission-oriented environment. It provides base orientation and in-processing, as well as reinforcing lessons learned in basic military and technical training. For FTAC information or to register, call 226-7829.
The Joint Bilateral NCO Professional Enhancement Course
is a four-day course designed for Staff Sergeants and Technical Sergeants who’ve not attended formal PME in three or more years. This class is designed as both a PME refresher and a step up to the next supervisory tier. What’s unique about this course is that Misawa AB, partners with our Japanese Air Self-Defense Forces (JASDF) and joint services to provide PME to all enlisted NCOs for professional enhancement.
The Joint Bilateral SNCO Professional Enhancement Course
is designed for Master Sergeant-selects and newly-promoted Master Sergeants. This four-day course functions as a formal welcome to SNCO tier of leadership with an in-depth view of their increased supervisory, leadership and managerial responsibilities. It also provides a networking opportunity and assistance in making the transition to SNCO status more effective. This course is also open to our partners, JASDF and joint services to provide PME to all enlisted SNCOs for professional enhancement.
