Important Passport & Visa Info

DO NOT leave the U.S. without applying for your Official No-Fee Passport if you are a Command Sponsored Dependent

DO NOT enter Korea until the start date of your Visa

Official Passport

Your Official No-Fee Passport is for Official Travel such as PCS, TDY, or travel between Korea and the U.S. Before traveling to Korea, inbound DoD civilian and Command Sponsored dependents who are U.S. citizens must apply for a No-Fee Passport at a Military Passport Office (or www.travel.state.gov) at your losing base. Non-U.S. citizens must apply for a country of origin passport.
Take the following original or certified documents to your passport appointment:

  • Military ID Card & PCS Orders
  • ORB/ERB (Newborn Passports)
  • DoD Member’s ID (Color Copy of Front & Back)
  • Form DS-11 or Form DS-82 (with Passport)
  • Proof of Citizenship (Birth Certificate, Naturalization, or Citizenship Certificate)
  • Proof of Name Change Documents (Marriage/Divorce Decrees)
  • 2 Recent Passport Photos
  • Most Recent (Current and/or Expired) Passports
  • For minors, both parents must be present OR have a notarized Form DS-3053

The process can take 8 or more weeks, so begin as soon as possible. For more information contact your local passport office.

A-3 Visa

Upon arrival in Korea, civilian employees and dependents will take their passports to the Osan Korean Immigration Services office located in the AMC Passenger Terminal to obtain their SOFA stamp and A-3 Visa. For more information, visit the SOFA page.

Tourist Passport

Tourist Passports are required for leisure travel outside of the U.S., as well as travel throughout Asia once you arrive in Korea. It can take up to 8 weeks to process a Tourist Passport in Korea. Apply for a Tourist Passport prior to leaving the U.S. to avoid delays in travel! Once in Korea, Tourist Passports are obtained through the U.S. Embassy.

Apply for Tourist Passports at any U.S. Post Office or visit www.travel.state.gov.

Members are responsible for fees incurred to obtain a tourist passport.

After arrival, visit the Kunsan Air Base Passport Office for:

  • Special Issuance Passports (no-fee, official, diplomatic) for military, DoD civilians, and Command Sponsored dependents (not contractors)
  • Visas for official travel for military, DoD civilians, and Command Sponsored dependents (not for tourist travel)
  • Certified copies of Social Security Number cards for newborns
