Exceptional Family Member Program

The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is a Department of Defense program offered by all branches of the military. It is a mandatory enrollment program for all active duty Airmen who have a family member with an exceptional medical or educational need.

The program is comprised of three components:

  • EFMP-Medical
  • EFMP-Assignment Coordination
  • EFMP-Family Support

Medical

  • EFMP-Medical supports the EFMP through screening, enrollment and assignment coordination through the Family Member Travel Screening.

Family Support:

  • EFMP-Family Support is provided by the Military & Family Readiness Centers’ (M&FRC) EFMP-FS coordinators to all DoD ID cardholders assigned to the installation or located in the community.

Transition Assistance Program

Transitioning from military to civilian life can be a cause for celebration, but for many Veterans it can be the great unknown. Life changes fast, from translating military-specific skills to a career, adjusting to civilian culture, to even the basics of where to live and receive health care. All while hopefully staying connected to their military and now Veteran support network.

4 Steps Process:

  • Initial Counseling
  • Pre-Separation
  • TAP Core Curriculum/Transition Tracks
  • Capstone Counseling

Virtual Training:

  • Core Curriculum can be completed through the Learning Management System (CBT) or as a Synchronous version

In-Person Training:

  • Fort Meade Fleet and Family Support Center: Biweekly Transition Brief alternating between education and employment focused
