It is important to read the announcement carefully, complete all assessments and submit all required documents.
NOTE: Military Spouse/Family Member Preference and Self-Sponsored employees who PCS’d from CONUS are primary US APF employment categories.
Military Spouse Preference
What? Military Spouse Preference is a benefit given to a qualified military spouse seeking employment within the Department of Defense, which includes Non appropriated Funds (NAF), Civil Service (GS/WG) and AAFES positions. MSP gives the spouse a higher priority for government positions.
Eligibility Requirements:
– Relocation via a PCS move to sponsor’s new permanent duty station
– Married the military member PRIOR to his/her reporting date to new area
– Meets basic qualifications and is among the best qualified
– Meets all pre-employment criteria and is immediately appointable under applicable recruitment procedures
– Posses a copy of PCS orders identifying the sponsor, reporting date to new location and YOUR name is on the orders
Do I have to use my MSP to apply?
No, but if you are hired for, or are converted to a “continuing position”, your eligibility for this PCS move has not been used. A continuing position is defined as positions which appointments are made without time limitation, and are required to have a fixed work schedule, i.e., part time or full time. NAF Flexible category positions are considered non-continuing and MSP eligibility remains intact if appointment for a flexible position only.
How is MSP Lost?
– Accepting or refusing a continuing position in the Federal Service, whether or not preference was applied
– Refusal to participate in established recruitment procedures
– Loss of military spouse status due to divorce, death of sponsor, sponsor’s retirement, or separation from active duty
Other Important Information:
– MSP only applies to positions within the commuting area of the military sponsor’s permanent duty station
– MSP eligibility begins 30 days before the military sponsor’s reporting date at the new duty location
– Military spouses seeking preference with less than six months remaining in the area may not be selected for continuing positions

Qualification Requirements:
Many positions require English proficiency, however, there are certain positions that require German language skills, due to the fact that translations and interactions with German authorities are a vital part of the duties.

How can I make an appointment/reservation?
Scheduling vehicle repairs by our mechanics can be done with our front counter staff located at the entrance of BLDG. 189. Appointments can only be made by the vehicle’s owner, and the vehicle’s registration is needed during scheduling.
Self-Help does not accept reservations and is operated on a first-come-first-serve basis. You must be 16 years or older to work in the bay area.
The Auto Parts Yard does not accept reservations and is operated on a first-come-first-serve basis during our hours of operation.
For towing services, please contact the 52FSS Auto Hobby Shop Service desk located in the Arts and Crafts Building 189 directly across from Vehicle Inspections, and underneath Plaques Plus.
What do the specific services entail?
The 52FSS Auto Hobby offers full automotive service. This ranges from oil changes to changing out major components and everything in-between. We also offer new part sales and tires that can be ordered through our front counter staff.
Can I perform fuel maintenance at Self-Help?
Some fuel system maintenance can be conducted but it depends upon the specific fuel system and type of maintenance. Please check with the Auto Hobby staff.
What do the specific services entail for Self-Help?
Our Self-help DIY bays are available for Airmen, their family members, civilians, and retirees who would like to take a more hands-on approach with their vehicles, and we have knowledgeable staff on hand to guide and assist.
For Self-Help, to what extent will the staff assist me with my car repair?
Staff are available to provide guidance and instruction on tool and equipment usage, automotive repair procedures and to assure compliance with pertaining safety and environmental regulatory compliance.
For Auto Parts Yard, what do the specific services entail?
Our Auto Parts Yard is available for disposal of unwanted/needed vehicles for the Spangdahlem and surrounding military communities. Vehicles must be registered on base and have a current operational or non-operational registration (no Temporary registrations). Vehicles must also be free from any liens. Used tires and parts are also available for purchase at the APY, buyer must remove themselves, or arrangements can be made for staff to remove parts for a service fee that will be determined by staff prior to removal. The APY also conducts weekly auctions for whole vehicle sales. These are by sealed bids that begin every Tuesday and close on Saturday. Bids are then opened by a disinterested party the following week and high-bidders are contacted to complete the purchase. Most bids start at $350.00.
For Auto Parts Yard, what are the prices for each service?
Vehicle donations are free to members of the Spangdahlem military community. Prices vary on our salvage part selection. Weekly auction bids start at $350 depending on vehicle.
What do the specific service entail for Towing Services?
Towing is also offered through the Auto Parts Yard up to 200 km away, and further with approval from the AH manager.
