Cheese & clogs
Learn all about the typical Dutch delicacies at a replica of a traditional farm from Oostzaan. The cheese makers, clad in traditional costumes, will tell you all about the different types of cheese. Watch a short demonstration showing everything that’s involved in producing the cheese. And, of course, you’ll get to taste some of those delicious cheeses. But be warned: a little taste probably won’t be enough for you! So you have time so check out and purchase some of the cheesy goodies in the farm shop.
Give the clog maker a block of wood and chisel, blink your eyes and voilà: a clog. Watch the clog maker at work and visit the small shoe museum. It’s a unique opportunity to view one of the largest and finest collections of clogs in the Netherlands. This includes beautiful examples of painted clogs, carved clogs, “ice clogs” with iron fittings, horse clogs, “art”-clogs and clogs from many (exotic) countries.
The clog workshop also contains a large shop with ready to wear clogs in all sizes and colours, along with miniature clogs, clog slippers, key-rings and piggy banks. There is also a wide assortment of typical Dutch souvenirs: something for everyone.
Holland and its Tulips
Around lunch time you will arrive at Keukenhof Flower Garden. The history of the Keukenhof flower show began in 1949 with the mayor of Lisse and ten leading bulb growers deciding on the permanent, annual open-air flower exhibition. The gardens themselves, however, date back to 1840 when they were developed by two garden and landscape architects. There, you can explore a park filled with beautiful flowers, heather gardens, cascades, trees, ponds, fountains and more. With some of the most picturesque landscapes in the country, Keukenhof is ideal for anyone who enjoys photography.
On the way home, there will be a photo stop at the iconic Kinderdijk windmills. Take beautiful pictures of this 18th century part of the Netherlands.
