Whiskey tasting with a blacksmith in a rural old mill
Distance from base: 40 km
Visit the smith in the old mill for Whisky tasting
The studio of the award-winning metal designer Jens Nettlich is located on an old mill property in the idyllic Vulkaneifel. From the spacious area you have a beautiful view of the valley. The studio is housed in the former horse stables, which offer a harmonious ambience.
He has been working internationally as a freelance artist since 2001 and has exhibited his diverse works made of metal, wood and leather, from archaic primal tools to expressive sculptures, on three continents.
Spend a pleasant evening in a lovingly restored old mill and enjoy a whiskey tasting with homemade appetizers that harmonizes with the aroma of the whiskies. Your host Mr. Nettlich will also show you a small demonstration of his skills in the old stables and forge a blade.
In addition to making sharp blades, Mr. Nettlich also likes to explain the differences between industrial knives and handmade blades. He will also be happy to give you care instructions and tips for sharpening the knives. If you are looking for a special gift, you can purchase some artistically crafted blades.
