The Library at Columbus Air Force Base is pleased to introduce a new librarian Brandi Lomax. Excited about the new position, the job does come with some familiarity with the surroundings as Brandi was born and raised in Amory, Mississippi, and received her degree in English from Mississippi State in 2015. She currently resides in Starkville with her husband and is due to finish her Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS) in December. Lomax has a love for others and hopes to use her time at the library to inspire everyone to achieve their dreams.
Big changes are coming to the library! Lomax hopes to change the current direction from focusing solely on children to creating an environment welcoming people of all ages. Lomax believes learning should never stop and the library is a place welcoming to children, teens, and adults.
“The library is not only for children,” said Lomax.
“The library is a useful way to help all ages learn and come together and enjoy reading books.”
Her desire to expand the library to include the needs of all ages will hopefully be established within the coming year.
As the future holds exciting promises of change, the present is still offering plenty of wonderful events in the coming months. The library will be hosting a National Read a Book Day on September 6th. National Writer’s Day will be celebrated on October 20th, where everyone is encouraged to participate in a writing contest. Submit a short story, essay, or poem to the library by October 14th and enter to win a prize at a writer’s day drawing on October 20th at 12 PM. Must be present to win!
