The Airman’s Attic is a store that junior enlisted members can go to for clothes and household essentials free of charge. If you would like to help volunteer on Saturdays for a bullet, please contact us to set up a Saturday for you to come help.

Donations are gratefully accepted anytime at the loading dock located at the side of the building and in the front lobby. There is a designated side for airman’s attic donations.

If a patron or a volunteer is found to be misusing the Airman’s Attic for intended purposes, or placing items received from the Airman’s Attic into garage sales, auction sites, Thrift Shop consignments, or anywhere else profit or non-profit, the patron or volunteer will be banned from using the Airman’s Attic for one year. If you no longer have a use for an item obtained from the Airman’s Attic, please consider donating back for other families to use.

Whether you just returned from a long trip during leave or just culled one of Mississippi’s many herds of insects, our car wash will help restore your vehicle to its full shining glory for a modest price. Don’t carry coins? For your convenience, a change machine located on-site! The car wash is located behind the Youth Center.

Air Force Chaplain Corps

The Air Force Chaplain Corps provides spiritual care and the opportunity for Airmen, their families, and other authorized personnel to exercise their constitutional right to the free exercise of religion. This is accomplished through religious observances, providing pastoral care, and advising leadership on spiritual, ethical, moral, morale, relational, and religious accommodation issues. About Religious Affairs Airmen

Religious Affairs Airmen facilitate the free exercise of religion for Airmen, their families, and other authorized personnel. They are assigned at all levels of command to facilitate spiritual care and ethical leadership. Religious Affairs Airmen are vital to providing spiritual care and are exempt from performing additional duties or details that impede ministry accomplishment.

Privileged Communication

You have the right to privileged communication when speaking to a chaplain or Religious Affairs Airmen. AFI 52-101 paragraph 5.1.1 states “Under no circumstances may a chaplain disclose privileged communication revealed in the practices of his/her ministry without the individual counsel’s informed, written consent.”

Ignition Teen Ministry

Meeting on Wednesday nights at the chapel from 6:00-7:20 PM is our chapel sponsored ecumenical Teen ministry. Whether Catholic or Protestant, 7th – 12th grade students are invited to attend. We gather to fellowship, pray, learn, eat and play. We also do fun outings such as movies, sporting events, bowling and more. Please call 434.2500 for more info!

The new Columbus AFB Dog Park is located in the between State and Magnolia Housing (grassy area adjacent to the Child Development Center), this local attraction gives your dog the room to run, have fun, and socialize with other canines. The park is open from dawn until dusk.

We ask that you please be courteous and clean up after your dog.

Dog Park Rules

1. Dog waste must be cleaned up immediately
2. Aggressive dogs are prohibited
3. Owners are responsible for their dogs at all times
4. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult
5. Use and enjoy the park at your own risk

On Base Pet Policy

1. Pets must be “on a leash” at all times when outside the fenced area of the home.
2. A pet is considered to be a domesticated animal living in association with a household. No more than two pets per household are allowed. A pet that weighs more than 100 lbs. will not be accepted. Certain breeds of dogs are not allowed, including but not limited to Pit Bulls, Rottweiler’s, and Doberman Pinchers, Wolf Hybrids or any canine breed with dominate traits towards aggression.
3. Residents are responsible for keeping the grounds clean and sanitary. All yards and common areas must be kept clean of pet droppings. Residents must pick up and properly dispose of animal waste in their yard. Residents who walk their pet/s must carry a plastic bag to retrieve and dispose of any droppings. It is a violation of the Pet Policy for any Resident to simply “turn out” their pet and recall it at their convenience.
4. Pets shall not be tethered outside the home. Pets must be in the home or behind an approved fenced area in the backyard if unattended. Avoid leaving pet food outside for prolonged periods of time, as it will attract vermin and pests.
5. Residents will be asked to remove any pet that constantly disturbs other Residents, whether inside or outside the home, or prevents the Landlord’s agents and employees from properly performing their duties. If Resident fails to remove said pet, when requested by the Landlord, the Lease may be terminated in accordance with established guidelines.

Located in the Shoppette, Shelton’s Dry Cleaning service is easily accessible and very convenient. Simply fill out a ticket and place it along with your garments in the prepared bag, and leave the other copy with the attendant. Your items will be pressed and ready in no time!

The Columbus-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce charters a Military Affairs Committee (MAC). This is a committee of volunteers solicited from the chamber-member businesses with the sole purpose of supporting Columbus AFB in the following ways:

Goals:

• Support the Pilot Partner program ‘welcome receptions’ for each new class of pilots
• Determine more effective ways to involve the community with Columbus Air Force Base
• Host appropriate Wing Commander change of command receptions
• Maintain base visibility by attending and supporting CAFB annual awards
• Assist CAFB with Fireworks on the Water, Air Shows and the Pilot for a Day program
• Support the Base Community Council on Community outreach activities with CAFB
• Host a barbecue for each of the two CAFB Airman Leadership School classes
• Promote, encourage and advocate Columbus Air Force Base partnerships

Partnerships:

• The Chief, 14 FTW Public Affairs is a standing representative on the committee
• The CAFB Community Council should have a liaison attend the MAC meetings

Program:

• The MAC usually meets monthly. Subcommittees may meet more frequently
• MAC members attend/host the Pilot Partner reception every three weeks
• MAC members will often help with setup and hospitality for CAFB functions like air show DV tents, Blaze picnics, July 4th events, etc
• MAC members coordinate door prizes for the CAFB Annual Awards Banquet

Most squadrons have coffee funds, flower funds, or other small operations – all examples of unofficial activities. When an unofficial activity’s current monthly assets exceed $1,000 over a three-month period, the activity must become a private organization.

A private organization (PO) is a self-sustaining special interest group set up by people acting outside the scope of any official position they may have in the federal government. They operate on Air Force installation with the written consent of the Installation Commander.

POs and unofficial activities may not engage in frequent or continuous resale activities. The Installation Commander has authorized the Mission Support Group Commander to approve an occasional fundraiser such as bake sale or car wash. The prohibition of continuous resale does not preclude collective purchasing and sharing of purchased items by members of the PO or unofficial activity. The Air Force Instruction which governs POs is AFI 34-223.

All unofficial activities on Columbus AFB, whether POs or not, must submit fundraiser requests for approval. Fundraisers are limited to two (2) events per calendar quarter and may not be conducted during the annual AFAF and CFC campaign.

However, to reach peak effectiveness we need the assistance of everyone living and working on CAFB. To do your part, please read the information below, and start diverting more today!

The main recycling center is located just next to Outdoor Recreation. Additionally, there are two 24-hour collection points, one is located in the shoppette parking lot and the other is outside the fence at the recycling center. Please drop-off items INSIDE building 151 during business hours, and only use the 24/7 wall or shoppette when building 151 is closed.

Items That Can Be Dropped Off At Building 151

Paper: All colors and textures; cardboard boxes, writing paper, envelopes, junk mail, advertisements, bound books, newspapers, phone books, magazines, packing paper, shredded paper, paper bags; if it’s paper we take it.

Plastic: #1 & 2 plastics only; check container for PETE or HDPE

Metal: Drink/ food cans, appliances, wire, file cabinets, trash cans, car parts, aluminum, steel, copper; if it’s metal we take it.

Glass: Bottles of all colors, shapes and sizes; No other glass products accepted.

*Please empty bottles and cans before putting them in the recycling bin of dropping them off at the recycling center. Cardboard boxes should be flattened before being placed in the bin or dropped off as well.*

E-Waste: All non-government owned electronics such as TVs, computers, phones, radios, etc.

Universal Waste: Batteries (i.e. vehicle, computer, 2-way radio, cell phone, AA), Pesticides, Mercury-Containing Equipment (i.e. thermostat, thermometer, mercury switch), Florescent Lightbulbs (i.e. tube, u-shape, compact)

Don’t you hate it when you want a snack in the evening, but the BX and Commissary are closed? Seek sweet snack-filled relief by stopping by the Shoppette! In addition to the gas station, the Shoppette holds a treasure-trove of goodies, ranging from that candy bar you know you shouldn’t eat (but are going to anyway) to grocery items, like milk, fruit, and mac n’ cheese! There is also a dry cleaning service located inside, for your convenience. The Shoppette really is a one-stop shop!

Consignments can be delivered during any of the hours listed above.

The Thrift Shop is a non-profit organization run by the Columbus AFB spouses and local staff. All of the proceeds go back to our military community and needs requested by local and national organizations throughout the year.

You must have Base access to shop here, but it is NOT required to be active duty; as long as you can get to us, we can sell to you. Everything is first come, first serve and sold as is.

You can drop off donations any time! The front main doors are always open for you to leave items at your convenience as well as the portion of the loading dock that says Thrift Shop Donations.

Volunteering

We are always looking for volunteers, so if you are interested in coming to help to make a difference, please call 662.434.2954, or just show up during normal business hours and we will put you to work. We are located in the building that used to be the Base Post Office, across the street from the lemon lot, follow signs located on base.

Consignment

Consignment documents are located on our Facebook Page. Consignment rules are located under files on the FB page and can be printed for your convenience. Currently we are not accepting BOOKS, SHOES and CLOTHING for Consignments, ONLY DONATIONS.

75% to consigner and 25% to Thrift Shop. Items stay 8 weeks, unless large item and seasonal only 4 weeks. Consignment checks can be picked up at the Thrift Shop during business hours.

Consignment sheets change colors monthly, so make sure you have correct color card stock. 20 tickets are $0.25 for all.

Looking for an interesting and rewarding experience… Become a VOLUNTEER! Volunteers provide invaluable support to the base and community, donating thousands of hours each month. Opportunities range from Columbus AFB Medical Center to the Airman’s Attic. Volunteers enjoy personal satisfaction that comes from helping others and contributing to the mission.

Additionally, there is an annual recognition and presentation of the Air Force Volunteer Excellence Award (VEA) and the Base Volunteer of the Quarter and Year Award.
