April is Month of the Military Child and the U.S. Department of Defense celebrates military children. There are more than 1.6 million military children who face many challenges and unique experiences as a result of their parents’ service. With military members serving around the world, April is set aside to encourage and support their children. Military families move on average every two to three years, impacting military children through changing schools and support networks. Each year, the DoD joins national, state and local government, schools, military serving organizations, companies and private citizens in celebrating military children and the sacrifices they make.
The Columbus Air Force Base Child Development Center (CDC) will also “Purple Up” and celebrate Month of the Military Child with daily activities. There will be a family picnic, purple parade, a Military Kids ball, purple ice cream social, movie night, and the annual bike/trike ride, just to name a few.
The CDC’s goal is to offer a high quality, early childhood program that provides a safe and nurturing environment while promoting the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children. Air Force, Department of Defense, and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) have recognized the Columbus CDC team as meeting and exceeding this goal.
Ms. Victoria Bentley recently became the Columbus AFB Child Development Center’s Director. Ms. Victoria brings a wealth of experience having served in child and youth services for more than 11 years. She has a BS Degree in Early Childhood Education and working on her Master Degree in Executive Leadership.
Bentley said, “I have this quote on my desk, ‘A child’s life is like a piece of paper where every person leaves a mark’. I am here to be a part of shaping and molding the future.”
Your CDC is one of only two childcare centers within a 50 mile radius accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
Some of the key features of the CDC here is Columbus are the cleanliness standards that are on PAR with a medical clinic with 2-full-time custodians that deal with cleaning and accidents. This allows caregivers to focus on taking care of the children.
The Columbus Child Development Center has no additional fees for breakfast, lunch, snacks, as well as no registration fees or supply fees.
Also, all employees are CPR/1st Aid certified and have undergone extensive background checks. There are also two full-time Training & Curriculum Specialists.
