Welcome To Columbus Mississippi

The Deep South's Friendly City

Columbus Mississippi is a historically rich city that was used as a hospital town during the Civil War. Thus many of the period houses were preserved. Local tours are available throughout the year but especially during the annual Pilgrimage in early spring. It is also the birthplace of America’s most prolific playwright, Tennessee Williams and Mississippi University for Women (which admits men too).

Columbus is is the county seat of Lowndes County, located in Northeast Mississippi. The Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway runs through Columbus offering amazing water sports and incredible fishing thanks to the lake created by the lock & dam system. Several State parks and recreation areas are associated with the Tenn-Tom Waterway. Columbus is centrally located to a half-dozen major cities including about 4 hours to Atlanta, GA; 5 hours to New Orleans, LA; 5 hours to Nashville, TN, 3 hours of Memphis, TN; less than 3 hours to Jackson, MS; 2 hours to Birmingham, AL, about 5 hours to Gulf of Mexico beaches in Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi; just to name a few.

Visit Columbus website is a great resource for area attractions, events, places to stay, and restaurants.
