Casualty Assistance’s primary goals are to provide prompt, accurate reporting of active duty deaths, very serious or serious illness/injuries, deliver dignified and humane notifications, and offer efficient, thorough, and compassionate follow-on assistance to the next-of kin (NOK) and/or those designated to receive benefits/entitlements for as long as is needed.
As a reminder, Airmen are encouraged to update their records (vRED/SGLI) whenever a life change occurs, such as marriage, divorce and birth of a child to ensure the proper NOK notifications are made. For more information on updating vRED and/or SGLI, visit myPers or SGLI.
Casualty assistance representatives (CAR) also serve as liaisons between the next-of-kin/beneficiaries of deceased active duty members and/or retirees and government agencies to initiate claim applications for monetary benefits/entitlements. To report the death of a retiree, please call DFAS at (800) 321.1080 or online at DFAS.
The Casualty Assistance Office is located in the Military Personnel Flight (MPF), Bldg 210, Room 170. The Casualty & Survivor Benefits Office is providing assistance to active duty members, retirees and their families by appointment only. To schedule a casualty assistance or Survivor Benefits Plan (SBP) appointment with a casualty/survivor benefits program manager, please send an email to Eglin.CasualtyOffice@us.af.mil or call 850.882.4028.
