Ahoy there, cardboard engineers! — Eglin’s 21st Cardboard Regatta will set sail during Summer Splash at Postl Point. Muster your crew of comrades, coworkers, friends or family and build a cardboard boat seaworthy enough to compete on race day!
Boats and paddles/oars must be constructed completely of cardboard, using only tape, glue, and paint — no other materials allowed! Individuals, families, squadrons, and other group entries are welcome.
Competing boats may be brought to the designated beach area beginning at 10 a.m. and must be in place before 11 a.m. when judging will begin. The race itself will start at approximately 11:30 a.m.
Boats will be raced from a standing dry start on the beach, into and across the water to a turnaround point and back again. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place boats to make a qualified finish, returning to shore with crew and boat intact.
Other prizes awarded will be Best Design, Best Spirited Crew, a “People’s Choice” award, and the un-coveted “Davy Jones Award” for the boat that sinks the fastest.
All Eglin personnel and families with base access are welcome to participate or spectate. Participation is FREE! Preregistration is required.
