The Transition Assistance Program (TAP), presented by the Eglin Military & Family Readiness Center, provides the necessary information, tools, and training to ensure military service members are prepared for their transition to civilian life.
The initial counseling and pre-separation counseling must be completed at least 365 days or more from the date of separation or retirement.
- Begin the transition process by completing an initial counseling session. Please bring the following:
- Initial Self-Assessment (found on the download section)
- CCAF transcript (if applicable)
- Updated Verification of Military Training & Experience (VMET) document located on milconnect.dmdc.osd.mil
- Top portion of the Individual Transition Plan (downloadable at eglinlife.com/mfrc)
- During the initial counseling session, members will be registered for a pre-separation briefing, three-day TAP GPS and any additional workshops. To be compliant, both the initial counseling and pre-separation briefings must be completed 365 days or more from your date of separation or retirement.
- During the TAP GPS briefing, some of the topics that will be discussed are VA benefits, how to translate military skills and training to civilian skills and terminology, TRICARE, current techniques for developing a résumé and conducting an effective job search.
- There are four optional two-day tracks available for individuals who would like more information on career preparedness for Department of Labor (DOL) employment, vocational training (DOL vocational track), owning a business (entrepreneur track/”Boots to Business”) or furthering your education (“MY Education” track).
- In order to be compliant with TAP requirements, members will have to complete CAPSTONE prior to discharge. CAPSTONEs can be accomplished by walk-ins during business hours. During the CAPSTONE appointment, a transition counselor will ensure that all of the required TAP appointments, briefings and workshops have been accomplished. Command signature is required to complete this phase.
