SCHOOL LIAISON PROGRAM
About Us
The average military child will attend between six and nine different schools from Kindergarten to 12th grade. With each move, military children and families face many school-related challenges, including navigating school choice, records transfers, graduation requirements, and more.
The Child & Youth Education Services School Liaison Program’s primary function is to serve as a conduit between parents, educators, and base command so that military children experience a seamless transition during a PCS and transfer between schools.
How the School Liaison Can Help!
School Liaisons can:
- Provide information about local schools and registration requirements
- Assist with inbound and outbound school transfers
- Provide information and resources for college and career readiness
- Connect children to a youth sponsor who can answer your child’s questions from a peer’s perspective
- Assist in navigating local homeschool laws and making connections with local co-ops and support resources
- Help you understand and navigate local special education programs and services, as well as make referrals to the Exceptional Family Member Program
- Connect teachers with the Air Force deployment support system to help them understand the cycles of deployment and the tools available to assist in working with children experiencing a deployment
- Serve as subject-matter experts for base commanders on K-12 issues, helping to connect command with school and community resources
- Help with questions about compliance and solutions regarding the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children
- and much more!
