Helping Children Thrive

The Child Development Center assists military and civilian personnel in balancing the demands of family life while accomplishing the Department of Defense (DoD) mission. We offer quality and affordable services for eligible children, ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Fees are based on DoD guidelines according to the Military Child Care Act of 1989.

Learn More About Early Learning Matters Curriculum

The CDC utilizes current early childhood research and follows the Early Learning Matters (ELM) curriculum, which is proven to meet each child’s developmental needs and prepare them for kindergarten. Parents can take comfort in high staff to child ratios and in staff members who have been through extensive background checks.

Child Care You Can Trust

Exacting training and testing standards mean our CDC staff members are professionally responsible and held to a higher level of accountability than other programs. Frequent inspections, including Department of Defense (DoD) unannounced, monthly, and annual comprehensive health, safety and fire inspections, multidisciplinary inspections and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation, assure Hanscom’s CDC standards meet rigid AF criteria.

Job Opportunities

Across the United States, there is a great shortage of child care providers to meet demand, and Hanscom Air Force Base is no exception. The Child Development Center is currently operating at approximately 50% capacity and we are actively hiring for Child Care Assistants. These jobs are open to the general public and military affiliation is not required.

Paying for Child Care

If you have a child between the ages of 0-12 and cannot access installation-based child care due to distance or waitlists, the Military Child Care in Your Neighborhood fee assistance program is available for U.S. Military and U.S. Coast Guard families. The program can help reduce and offset the costs of what families pay for care from local community providers.

The program is available to Air Force Active Duty, Air Force Reservists on Active Duty, Civilian Air Reserve Technicians, and Gold Star Spouses who:

  • Do not live near a DoD installation with a Child and Youth Program
  • Are unable to access installation-based childcare
  • Are married and his/her spouse is employed, actively seeking employment or a full-time student

For information on how fee assistance benefits are calculated, visit the Child Care Aware of America Air Force Fee Assistance webpage. Our Community Child Care Coordinator Ms. Robin Morris can assist you to determine viable child care options.

If you are experiencing delays with your subsidy packages, please make sure to check your spam email folder. If the delay continues, Air Force families should email AF.A1SOC@us.af.mil and a representative will contact you as soon as possible.
