628 Fss December to Remember

November 29, 2022

Joint Base Charleston, we hope you are looking for things to do this December, because we have you covered! From family fun to football, we’ve got FREE, fun events lined up for you all the way until the holidays.

We’re kicking things off with our Holiday Tree Lightings. Each side of the Joint Base community has a tree for everyone to enjoy, and we are lighting the one on the Air Base November 30th at 4:30pm and the one on the Weapons Station on December 1st at 4:30pm. We hope to see you out there, whether you’re petting animals at the petting zoo, making faces for the photo booth, writing your letter to Santa, or eating all the goodies available. (Including Miracle’s Tasty Express food truck!) Best of all, Santa is riding in on his big red firetruck and will be available for photos and Christmas wish lists!

Also, Santa’s mailboxes are out and awaiting Letters to Santa! You can find them on the Air Base at Hunt Housing, Fire Station 1 (on Bates St.), and Fire Station 2 (at Hunley Park). On the Weapons Station, you’ll find them at Balfour Beatty Housing Office, Fire Station 5 (near the NEX), and Fire Station 6 (near the Golf Course). Drop your letters into the boxes no later than December 18th so that you can receive a handwritten response from Santa!

We hope you haven’t gotted your Christmas tree this year, because Trees for Troops is bringing fresh, free Christmas trees to the Joint Base Charleston community! On Friday, December 2nd, we’ll be unloading a Fedex truck full of trees. These trees are first-come, first serve, with a limit of one per family and a DoD ID needed for pickup. Our Active Duty service members get first pick of the trees, with pickup from 11am – 1pm. After 1pm, the rest of the Joint Base Charleston community can come to pick up a tree. We have volunteers on hand to help load and secure trees, so don’t let the lack of a helping hand stop you from getting a tree!

Saturday, December 10th is our annual Breakfast with Santa event at the Charleston Club! This year’s is better than ever, with the theme of “Christmas Around the World.” Load up the kids and tuck in for a festive, yummy breakfast. Afterwards, your family can visit with the animals at the petting zoo, decorate cookies, listen to holiday stories, get their faces painted, take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and win prizes with the Ugly Sweater contest.

Are you a creative baker? Entries for the Gingerbread Contest must be submitted to the Charleston Club by December 6th. The community will vote for their favorite house and the winner will be announced at Breakfast with Santa!

Seatings for each sitting of Breaksfast with Santa are by pre-registration only, and you can do that through our website!

Later on December 10th, you can leave the kids at home and head out to The Dive on the Weapons Station for the Army vs. Navy Football Game. There will be food, games and prizes, and some extra special holiday treats for attendees, courtesy of Towns for Troops.

On Tuesday, December 13th, Wrenwoods Golf Course is hosting its annual Holiday Open House. If you’re coming for the deals, you won’t be disappointed, and you have to stay for the taco bar, desserts, live music, & more! Check off some of the items on your Christmas list without feeling the shopping frenzy.

(Speaking of good deals – Marrington Bowling Center is offering 10% off of all merchandise through December 23rd!)

Our Air Base Fitness Center has a festive 5k scheduled for December 16th. Find your favorite Ugly Holiday Sweater and dash away so that you have a good chance of winning one of the first place prizes. Register using the QR code in the graphic.

December 14th through December 25th, Gaylor Dining Facility will be playing your favorite holidays movies during mealtimes! Make sure you stop in for some food and 12 Days of Christmas Movies. A special treat will be served in conjunction with the movie of the day!

If you’re a gamer, we’ve got something for you, too! (Sorry, it’s not a PS5.) You can join our Rocket League Holiday Tournament the weekend of December 17th. It’s open to all gaming platforms and the winner will receive a cash reward. Sign up through our Discord League.

And finally, if you are looking for a delicious Christmas meal and friendly faces, you are invited to join us for Christmas Dinner at Gaylor Dining Facility. Dinner includes Roast beef, Carved Pit Ham, and Rotisserie chicken with many delicious sides and even a children’s menu of chicken tenders and mac & cheese. Our Dining Facility can’t wait to wish you the merriest Christmas.

We can’t wait to see you this December, and hopefully more than once! We’re ready to be on your nice list for the remainder of 2022 and on to 2023!
