September Calendar #FSS365

September 2, 2022

Welcome to September, Joint Base Charleston! The team here at FSS has a calendar packed with programming and events to keep you busy all month! From our 9/11 Remembrance 5K run to Bells Across America for our Gold Star Families, we have been working hard to honor the past, build community in the present, and invite you to look forward to fun events we have scheduled for the future.

Activity Highlights

9/11 Remembrance Run

On September 9th at 7:15am, the Air Base Fitness Center is hosting the 9/11 Rembrance 5K Run. This event is free and open to anyone who has base access. There are prizes for the top 3 male and female runners.

Intramural Flag Football

Flag football season is beginning on October 4th. Team registration is now underway; the sign-up deadline is September 12th. Contact your local fitness center for more detail. Get your team registered today!

Ombudsman Appreciation

On September 14th, Joint Base Charleston’s Military and Family Readiness Centers are showing our Ombudsman how much we appreciate them with lunch at the Charleston Club. Thank you for being the link between commands and families!

Baby-Sitters Class

We won’t argue that teenagers like the opportunity to make money, but baby-sitting also offers teens the opportunity to build skills. Your teen will learn to set limits and boundaries, gain independency, acquire more empathy and perspective, and build valuable career skills like setting hourly wages and time availability.

Call the Air Base Youth Center today to pre-register your child (age 11-16).

UPS Road Code Class

Is your teen preparing to get behind the wheel? Teens ages 14-17 are welcome to attend and learn about the road and driving safely with Youth Programs. Attendees will be able to practice on our virtual driving simulator.

Teens can possibly get 10% off your insurance once they complete the class. They will receive a certificate upon completion. Parents, this is a benefit worth looking into.

September Adventures Await

If you haven’t signed up for any of ODR’s Adventure Calendar trips, what are you waiting for? Highlights this month include the Folly Island biking tour to Lighthouse Inlet Heritage Preserve, and a day in Myrtle Beach visiting Wonderworks and a hearty meal at Medieval Times. Trips fill up quickly so make sure you’re registered today!

Bells Across America

On September 22nd, Military and Family Readiness is inviting Gold Star Families to join them for their Bells Across America ceremony. Join them in paying their respects to the men and women who sacrificed their lives for our country.

Happy 75th!

It’s a big birthday for the United States Air Force! This is the year to “Innovate, Accelerate and Thrive.” The 75th anniversary is on September 18th, 2022. We hear Gaylor Dining Facility will have a cake on Friday the 16th!
