Base Track Renovation Information

What: Base Running Track Renovation

When: Project will begin 18 March 2024 (Monday). Construction is expected to occur M-F 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, until estimated completion July 2024.

Where: Kirtland East Fitness Running Track (next to Blake’s Lotaburger). A portion of the parking area on the south side of the track (along Pennsylvania St/next to the indoor pool) will be used as a staging area during construction. The soccer field will be closed throughout the construction period. Most units will use Hardin Field as the official testing location for the run portion of their Physical Fitness Assessments.

Way Forward: Unit POCs, UFPMs and UFACs must refer to the guidance sent out by the Fitness Assessment Cell (FAC) regarding temporary COAs for official and diagnostic Physical Fitness Assessments (PFA). Units will utilize Hardin Field for the 1.5 mile run and 2k walk portions until the track re-opens. Military members will have priority in using Hardin Field‘s running path whenever diagnostic or official fitness assessments are in progress. Please call 846.1102 for questions.

Why: The track has received multiple writeups due to its outdated/cracked/worn-out surface. Overdue for renovation to better meet official Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and safety standards.

Who: The closure will temporarily affect all Kirtland units that use the East Fitness Center track for PFA’s and PT. This includes all DAF AD, Guard, Reservists, tenant units, Navy, Marines, Army, and civilians and dependents who utilize the track for personal training. This will also temporarily affect those who use Hardin Field daily (e.g. Sandia civilians, base housing residents, etc.) for personal exercise as Fitness Testing will take priority.
