About LA AFB Fitness & Sports

The LAAFB Fitness Center is the one-stop place to meet all your daily fitness needs with state-of the-art equipment, group classes, intramural sports. Regardless of your fitness goals, we have the facilities and services that can help you meet them.

Do you want to work out but do not know where to start? Our FREE equipment orientation is a great way to get started. Our experienced staff will take you through the cardio, strength and free weight equipment areas. All fitness levels are encouraged to attend.

Orientation includes:

  • A tour of the facility
  • Weight machine safety and settings
  • Cardio machine safety and settings
  • Gym etiquette

Fitness Center Age & Equipment Use Policy

*As per Air Force Regulation DAFI-34-266

16 Years of Age and Over
  • Unrestricted use of all Fitness Center facilities and equipment. Need not be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
13 – 15 Years of Age
  • All cardiovascular and weight equipment, group exercise rooms: Require interactive supervision from an adult at all times (parent, legal guardian, qualified fitness or youth program staff member or coach). Other activity areas (basketball court, racquetball courts, running track): Parent or legal guardian must be in the facility.
6 – 12 Years of Age
  • All cardiovascular and weight equipment group exercise rooms: Access to these areas prohibited. Other activity areas (basketball court, racquetball courts, running track): always Requires interactive supervision from an adult.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 8:00 AM
  • Wednesday 20 Meter HAMR Shuttle 9:00 AM

NOTE: When registering you must select Pacific Daylight Time zone to receive correct test time. Or contact the FAC at 310.653.6648.

The objective of this program is to provide support for military
members undergoing their physical training test, for the 1.5-mile run.
Experienced pacers will accompany the tester to help them achieve their
target time, improve performance, and ensure they maintain a steady pace
throughout the run.

Testers interested in participating in the Pacer Program should sign up by contacting the program coordinator.

Pacers interested in volunteering should also sign up by contacting the program coordinator.

Running Track

  • The track is open with markings to annotate the 100M, 200M, and 400M, and 2K Walk designations and start/stop point for testing. Utilize designated running or walking shoes.
  • Please utilize concrete or brick walkways when not actively exercising on the track, especially if people are wearing heels, cowboy boots, shoes with pointed
    toes, spikes, and cleats will tear the track’s protective coating and surfacing.
  • Fitness Testing will continue to have priority for track usage. As a reminder, Fitness Testing is conducted Tues-Thurs. at 0800 (usually on the track around
    8:20-8:45).
  • If you see any tearing, holes, or other hazards in the track, immediately notify your UFPM or the Fitness Center for repair.

Aerobics

Group Fitness & Aerobics:
Group fitness classes are free and do not require registration.

Military Fitness Expo

This event will host various exhibitors featuring the latest in health and wellness, sports, fitness, and nutrition.

Commander’s Cup Challenge

The Commander’s Cup is a program with the Fitness & Sports Center where units can compete individually or as a team with other units to earn points at select Fitness & Sports events from January through May, culminating at Sport’s Day in June. Registration is required to accumulate points.

Rules and Points System

  1. Maximum 3 teams per unit are eligible to receive points and only 1 team can place
  2. Rosters of participants and which team they will be on are required, members are only authorized to participate on 1 team, ie. Capt John Smith (SBD 3 Team 1)
  3. All points earned will be added up prior to Sports Day as a starting point (Point Count will be announced at opening ceremony)
  4. You may change the personnel for each event per month
  5. Points System
    a.1st Place: 10 Points
    b.2nd Place: 7 Points
    c.3rd Place: 5 Points
    d.Participation: 2 points**
    i.3 teams max will receive points per Unit (SBD 3 has 8 teams participate on 3 receive points)
    ii.If 1/3 teams place top 3, the remaining two team will receive a max of 4 points
    iii.If 2/3 teams or 3/3 teams place top 3, the highest place will get the max points, and remaining teams will only receive participation points
    e.Example: SBD 3 Team 1 vs SBD 3 Team 2 in Championship
    i.12 Points will be awarded (1st place 10, participation 2)
    ii.If All SBD 3 teams place top 3, max points-14 total
  6. Individual Challenges Point System
    a.Participation 2 points Only; max 10 points per unit
    (1st place: 10, 2nd Place: 2 (participation points), 3rd place: 2 (participation points)
