About Civil Service Employment
The Civilian Personnel Office at the USAF Academy is responsible for the oversight and direction of the personnel program for appropriated fund (APF) civilian employees. This includes the direction and administration of the labor/management relations and employee/management relations programs, affirmative employment programs, position management and classification, employee development and training, and injury and unemployment compensation.
Employees needing information regarding Benefits & Entitlements, or the status of an employment application should contact BEST at 800-525-0102 then select option 3 for Civilian Employees.
About Non Appropriated Fund Personnel (NAF)
Employment with the NAF is deemed federal. It differs from federal civil service employment, however, because the funds used to pay NAF employees’ wages come from a different source. Congress appropriates funds for civil service employment. Air Force clubs, bowling alleys, golf courses, and other activities that employ NAF personnel produce NAF funds.
NAF roles are classified as “flexible,” “regular part time,” and “regular full time.” Employees that are flexible have work schedules that are determined by the needs of the activity. These individuals work a minimum of zero hours per week and a maximum of 40 hours per week with no benefits. Regular employees put about 20 to 40 hours every week.
BENEFITS INCLUDE
Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, Life Insurance, Family Medical Leave, Paid Paternal Leave, Awards, Tuition Assistance, Employee Assistance, and Signing Bonus (some positions).
Air Force Civilian Service
As civilians, we share the same responsibility to our nation as the men and women in uniform. We share the same passion as well. Together, we develop innovations and harness the energy to meet every challenge.
